About

Hello! I am a graduate of Duke University (BA in Biology, BA in Global Health, minor in Computational Biology & Bioinformatics) and George Washington University (MPH in Health Policy) currently working in public health with additional experience in media.

At Duke, I was a University Scholar, Margolis Scholar and QuestBridge Scholar, and I graduated with distinction for my thesis on farmworker health. I attended GW on the Presidential Scholarship and completed my degree capstone on access to obstetric services in rural North Carolina.

I am driven by the belief that everyone deserves equal access to information and resources. I also enjoy projects where I am able to explore the whys and hows and gain familiarity with a topic; this has lent itself to my interests in research and reporting. My experience in different sectors is one of my greatest strengths. Being a reporter taught me how to ask questions and hunt down records, which was incredibly useful when I needed to develop a qualitative instrument or find evidence of a policy’s impact. I have also helped students and professionals with no journalism experience navigate working with journalism outlets.

Likewise, I can draw on the data analysis skills, ability to understand research studies, and policy advocacy training I gained through public health to help people understand the true impact of health decisions.

I also value creativity; I enjoy creative writing, making videos, and supporting the arts.

Public Health

I have done research in academic settings as well as provided research for clients. Topic interests include health outcomes research, health care pricing, drug pricing, quality of care, access to services, oncology, and women's health.

Leadership experience includes:

  • Managing the newsletter, website, and social media for Duke's Student Collaborative on Health Policy as Director of Communications
  • Planning academic and service initiatives as Education & Advocacy Chair of GW's Public Health Student Association
    • Led fundraising initiative for Aaliyah in Action, funding ten care kits for families (about 10% of their average monthly distribution in 2024)
  • Advocating for people living with breast cancer and benign breast conditions
    • Connecting with state and federal legislators via letters and in-person meetings as an Advocacy Ambassador with the Susan G. Komen Center for Public Policy
    • Writing for publications about breast health, citing academic research, data, interviews, and anecdotes
Journalism + Communications

I was a staff writer for The Academic, a publication on student life, and later joined Affinity Magazine, writing about pop culture and current events. In 2019 I was promoted to assistant culture editor and eventually books editor. As books editor, I reviewed middle grade through adult books and facilitated the magazine’s relationship with publishers including SparkPoint, Granity Studios, and HarperCollins. My reviews have been highlighted on Amazon and social media. Additionally, my work, including an article I wrote on reproductive health, has been used in university courses.

I worked at The Chronicle, Duke’s student newspaper, from matriculation to graduation. In that time, I served as managing editor and digital strategy director, received recognition from the North Carolina Open Government Coalition and Associated Collegiate Press, used data to support my reporting, advocated for improved web accessibility, and wrote over 100 articles. As of 2025, I am now on the Board of Directors of the Duke Student Publishing Company which operates The Chronicle. I was also co-president of Duke's chapter of Her Campus.

In summer 2022, I interned on the North Carolina investigations desk for McClatchy News, covering health and policy for The Charlotte Observer and attending IRE22. The following year, I was a data reporting intern with Chalkbeat, where I analyzed data in spreadsheets and used HTML and CSS to develop graphics. I was a 2022-23 ProPublica Emerging Reporter fellow and a 2021 recipient of the organization's Diversity Scholarship. My involvement in these programs allowed me to attend NICAR21 and NICAR23 and receive training from ProPublica journalists.

Since 2022, I have completed freelance assignments for news outlets and brands.

I have a YouTube channel and associated Instagram where I post about public health and pop culture. This initially started as a hobby and eventually evolved into a platform I wanted to use for education and information-sharing.
